When: Wednesdays, September 16th - October 21st, 2026 6-8 pm
Location: Online Via Zoom (All Classes Will Be Recorded)

In this class we will be reviewing all the important creative settings on your camera (a review of beginning photography lessons) such as S/TV, A/AV and then look at M (Manual Mode) too. We will also be experimenting more with using different framing and composition methods and understanding what makes a good histogram and the importance of metering as well as using image editing tools.

We will be looking at different photographers and sharing about the lighting they are using and the settings and the emotion/tension in their work. You will also learn to better capture the images you want in the moment. I look forward to working with all of you on this journey.

Mateo Zapata Zachai received his MFA in Photography from Yale University and BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from San Francisco Art Institute. He teaches photography at Portland Community College and University of Maryland Global Campus online and has taught at PNCA, Newspace, Shoreline Community College, and Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle, Washington. Mateo has exhibited nationally: most recent exhibits are at Rock/Dement Studio, Center on Contemporary Art and Martin-Zambito Fine Art. Articles of his  work have also been published in Artweek and The Stranger. Zachai’s work has been collected both nationally and internationally.  Work can be seen at www.zachai.com.Zachai has also taught art workshops at the Seattle Art Museum and has critiqued and taught at Yale School of Art, San Francisco Art Institute, University of Washington School of Art, Bellevue Community College, Youth in Focus and Coyote Central. He studied with Hank Wessel and Reagan Louie at San Francisco Art Institute and he was a teaching assistant for Gregory Crewdson and Lois Conner while at Yale University.
